Robert Owen Inc.,
produces the system components, of instruments and instrumentation, for
sensor signal conditioning & trend recording.
ROI products are designed with
system compatibility in mind. ROI-USB,
ROI-XMA, &
ROI-ISOV
combined as
integrated packages, are standard not special. The various series of ROI
devices are each building blocks, that may be used as expansion or
retrofit components; to enhance the capabilities of many existing systems.
Robert Owen Inc.'s transmitters are
easily connected to: data acquisition devices (such as PC A-D's) or
controllers (such as PLC's). A typical example of this is; an existing PLC
system or RTU, where a 4-20mA channel is available, but a requirement is
added for an additional measurement of temperature. The ROI-XMA
RTD or
Thermistor transmitters allow the conversion of a temperature sensor to
4-20mA, providing signal capability with the existing 4-20mA channel. This
can help eliminate potential difficulties faced, when system expansion may
not be done without great difficulty.
Some examples of expansion
difficulty are: limited space, limited device expansion capability, the
high cost or lack of availability of direct sensor measurement cards for
the PLC or RTU, excessive distance between the PLC or RTU & the
sensor, etc. Using the right signal conditioner, expanded capabilities can
be added to an existing, eliminating these difficulties.
-
Resistance transmitters
configured as temperature transmitters, for use with temperature
sensors such as Thermistors and RTDs.
-
Resistance transmitters
configured as position transmitters, for reading position sensors such
as potentiometers.
-
Resistance transmitters
configured as pressure transmitters, to be used for reading bridge
pressure sensors.
-
Resistance transmitters
configured as mV transmitters, to be used as bridge or voltage
transmitters for reading a variety of other sensors.
Beyond this, the component ROI
devices are by design signal compatible with each other. In applications
where a PC is available, but the need arrives for a mixed signal
monitoring system; a combination of ROI devices can be used together to
form combined systems.

Robert Owen Inc., produces; USB
analog to digital converters, Windows XP PC compatible, USB sensor signal
adapters; for real time sensor data acquisition of voltage, current, and
resistance based sensors; the ROI-USB. Useful for measurement of resistive
temperature sensors, such as thermistors (2252 ohm and 10k ohm) and RTDs
(PT1000, 1000 ohm platinum), 4-20ma transmitters (temperature
transmitters, such as thermistor transmitters and RTD transmitters), power
transmitters (when used with galvanic isolators), etc. The ROI-USB
can be
an integral part of mixed sensor signal conditioner systems.
Robert Owen Inc.'s analog USB
adapters (or USB A-D's) measure voltage, current, and resistance; when the
right signal conditioning is used. Recording instruments, such as the ROI-USB
A-D, can be used to monitor a range of sensors and signals; to
read temperature sensors (such as the RTDs and the Thermistors), position
and level sensors (such as potentiometers), or power (through the use of:
voltage isolators, voltage dividers, & shunt resistors as necessary).
By using current transmitters (such as ROI-XMA
4-20mA transmitters) or
isolation amplifiers (such as
ROI-ISOV) as signal conditioners
(instrumentation amplifiers for sensor signal conditioning), sensor
signals can to be instrumented for real time monitoring or data
acquisition.
With software tools like OPC Servers
and DDE Servers; turn Excel into a real time display and data acquisition
program. Compatible software tools, to turn the USB A-D's into Data
Acquisition Systems. Excel temperature
measurement allows Temperature Recorders, Temperature Profile monitoring,
USB Thermometer, and a variety of other instrumentation applications are
possible.
